Chugach Hosts U.S. Coast Guard Commandant & Sen. Sullivan, Celebrates Longstanding Partnership & Growing Coast Guard Presence

Anchorage, Alaska — Chugach Alaska Corporation (Chugach) hosted U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday and Sen. Dan Sullivan at a series of events las week recognizing the Coast Guard’s service to the state and the partnerships that help keep Alaska’s coastal communities safe.
Chugach was a proud sponsor of the Coast Guard Foundation’s Alaska Awards Dinner in Anchorage, which honored the service, the men and women who carry out its mission across the state, and the families who support them. Guests included Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. Following the dinner, Chugach organized and hosted community receptions in Cordova and Valdez that brought together local leaders, partners, shareholders and descendants, and community members. The gatherings were joined by Rear Adm. Bob Little, Commander of the Coast Guard Arctic District, and offered a chance to recognize the people, partnerships, and shared commitment that help keep Prince William Sound safe, strong, and resilient.

The events highlighted the Coast Guard’s longstanding commitments to maritime safety, emergency preparedness, environmental stewardship, and support for the communities that depend on these waters every day. Chugach’s own work supports nearly every class of Coast Guard cutter operating in Alaska. Ashore, that work extends from Coast Guard facilities to the Rescue 21 communications network that connects crews in an emergency. Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment to protecting Alaska’s coastal communities and the people who call them home.
“Semper Paratus, always ready, is the Coast Guard’s motto, and it’s how the men and women who serve here show up every day,” said Jonathan Dalrymple, CEO of Chugach. “At Chugach, we understand what that standard takes. Our TCC partnership has supported spill-response readiness in Prince William Sound for more than 30 years, and for more than 15 years we’ve helped keep the Coast Guard ready, from cutter to coast. We’re proud to stand with the Coast Guard and grateful to Secretary Mullin, Admiral Lunday, Senator Sullivan, and everyone working to strengthen its future in Alaska.”
The gatherings also looked ahead to the Coast Guard’s growing presence in Alaska. The service has announced plans to homeport new Arctic Security Cutters in the state, including a future icebreaker planned for Seward once supporting infrastructure is in place. The expansion is expected to bring more service members and their families to the region in the years ahead, along with new opportunities for the communities that will host them.

“The Coast Guard has been part of life in our coastal communities for generations, and the men and women who protect and serve here are our neighbors and part of our family,” said Chugach Chairman Sheri Buretta. “As the Coast Guard grows its presence in Alaska, including the new cutter planned for Seward, we see real opportunity for our communities and for the people who live and work along these waters. Chugach is proud to stand with them and to help make sure this growth strengthens the places we call home.”
Chugach extended its appreciation to the men and women of the Coast Guard for their dedication, professionalism, and service to Alaska, noting that the Coast Guard’s presence is vital to the safety, security, and well-being of communities throughout the region. Chugach also thanked Sen. Sullivan for his continued support of Alaska, Alaska Native people, the state’s military and veterans, and the Coast Guard’s mission, and expressed gratitude to everyone who joined the receptions in Cordova and Valdez.
