Uhart Scholar Trevor Moonin’s First Lap at Chugach
Chugach descendant Trevor Moonin doesn’t just clear hurdles; he sets his sights on the next one. As Chugach’s Barney Uhart Scholarship intern, Trevor is spending the next couple of months lending his time and talent to the Chugach Heritage Foundation (CHF), Cultural Resources, and the Chugach Museum, and he’s already off to a fast start.
One of three siblings, family runs deep for Trevor. His father grew up between Port Graham, Anchorage, and Seldovia, while his mother is from Anchorage. On the academic side, Trevor’s path has taken him from Florida National University, where he spent his first two years, to Tennessee Wesleyan University, where he completed his junior and senior years and earned a BS in Pre-Physical Therapy. He recently leveled up that pursuit with acceptance into Augustana University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Colorado, where he’s aiming to earn his doctorate and begin practicing in 2028.
Trevor brought that same drive to the track for all four years of college, competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m, high jump, long jump, javelin, and both relays, eventually specializing in sprints and javelin. He even competed through most of his senior season before stepping back to focus on his studies. Outside of school and sports, he’s an admitted “sneakerhead,” with a growing sneaker collection to prove it, and he’s always up for staying active with family and friends, especially his two sisters.
At Chugach, Trevor is still getting his footing across the organization, but he’s already off and running, supporting CHF’s 40th anniversary newsletter, and constructing archival boxes and cataloging artifacts for Cultural Resources and the Chugach Museum, with more on the horizon.
Trevor also happens to be the smiling face—alongside his great-grandfather Alex Moonin—on this year’s annual report, a moment he says has brought positive feedback from his family and friends. “Everyone really thinks that the picture looks great with my uppa,” Trevor shared.
His advice to fellow shareholders and descendants considering opportunities with Chugach? Go for it. “I would recommend exploring opportunities with Chugach. With CHF scholarship funding, I have been able to have many great experiences in college and meet many different groups of people and travel to places I never expected to go,” Trevor said. “The work environment of Chugach is also very inclusive and uplifting. I feel as though I am at home while I am working and feel very welcomed.”

It is wonderful to see this full circle moment as Trevor now contributes to and learns more about our cultural initiatives.”
