We’re on a Mission – Are You?
At Chugach Alaska Corporation (Chugach), our portfolio of companies serves different customers, industries and locations. But we are united under a common vision. Together, we’re improving the lives of the Alaska Native Community every single day. If you’re a passionate, results-driven Chugach shareholder or descendant looking to make a difference, then we invite you to continue reading and apply for Chugach’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position.
Who are we?
Chugach is more than just a business. We are a “forever company” responsible for creating intergenerational prosperity for shareholders through the three pillars outlined in our mission statement: Profitability, Celebration of our Heritage and Ownership of our Lands.
That purpose has led us to create a balanced portfolio of operating businesses and investments – led by President & Chief Operating Office (COO) Dan Fenza – whose focus is on growing profitability.
Now we are looking for a visionary CEO who will play a pivotal role in advancing the economic and social well-being of our more than 2,700 shareholders and descendants through the next two pillars of our mission statement: Celebration of Our Heritage and Ownership of Our Lands. Through the work of our Community Value Centers (CVC), the CEO will lead a variety of shareholder programs, benefits and services that have the power to improve education, income and health outcomes for current and future generations.
At Chugach, we understand better than most that the world is constantly changing, and after nearly five decades of adapting and overcoming challenges, our corporation remains resilient and thriving today. After a year of thoughtfully evaluating our organizational structure, the Board decided transitioning from a single leader (President and CEO) to a dual-pronged leadership structure (President and COO, and CEO) would offer the depth necessary to manage the significant growth and expansion of Chugach’s portfolio over the past several years, and better support Chugach’s mission.
What are we looking for?
The dedicated CEO role signals our commitment to accelerating our impact on our shareholder community. We are looking for a mission-driven individual to lead Chugach’s CVC team, including oversight of the Lands, Cultural, Community Regional Economic Development, Shareholder Development and Shareholder Services Departments, as well as corporate strategy and government affairs activities. CEO-driven strategic outcomes include:
- Successfully promoting and preserving our heritage and culture;
- Responsible stewardship and preservation of our lands in service of current and future generations;
- Improving the social and economic development of our people and communities over the next 100 years; and
- Influencing and shaping local, state, and federal policy in support of the Chugach people.
This position reports directly to our Board of Directors while working collaboratively with President and COO Daniel Fenza and a dynamic executive team to develop and champion the corporation’s strategic directives and manage the overall portfolio growth and profitability of the corporation.
If you meet our qualifications and feel you are up to the challenge, we encourage you to apply.
Do we share the same values?
Chugach has remained true to the spirit of resiliency ignited by our founders and first President Cecil Barnes, who set the highest standard for what it means to lead our corporation nearly 50 years ago.
We understand how important it is to choose a career opportunity compatible with your vision and values, which is why we hire leaders not solely based on their resume but based on who they are and what they represent. As a community-owned Alaska Native Corporation, we expect our leaders to live by five core behaviors that have guided our corporation – and our people – for generations:
- We do things the right way
- We build community
- We leave things better than we found them
- We empower people
- We create meaningful value
